On August 15th, Our 2 Cents Fairbanks Inc. delivered $3,000 and hundreds of pounds worth of high quality art supplies to The Fairbanks Resource Agency for their Progressive Art Program! A group of O2C donors as well as representatives from MAC Federal Credit Union, who matched your funds dollar for dollar up to $1500, were able to deliver these art supplies, unpack them with the artists and sit in for an Art Group. It was an incredible afternoon spent with exceptional artists! All documented for O2C donors in a short video made by Tonja Labuda, so that each of you can see and share in the community project that you funded! None of this is possible without you (and you and you and you and you …). You all exemplify the golden heart that makes this community a truly exceptional place to live.
Inspired by a nationwide movement to include people with intellectual and developmental disabilities in contemporary art, Fairbanks Resource Agency’s Discovery Center has been developing a Progressive Art Program which allows time, space and resources to participants, freeing them to develop their artistic vision. Our 2 Cents Fairbanks Inc. provided enough art supplies to sustain these artists for the coming year or longer, so that they can continue to create. Having had the pleasure of spending time with Phoebe Rohrbacher, the woman who started and facilitates this enriching program and having had the immense honor of meeting the artists themselves – well, to say I’m a fan of the work they’re all doing is an understatement. I am so grateful that people like Phoebe choose to live in Fairbanks, working everyday to make our town a better place to be, and I’m in awe of the talented artists that she works with.
This project is coming full circle in January of 2019! On January 4th, 2019, MAC Federal Credit Union will be hosting a First Friday Art Show to showcase the artists of FRA’s Progressive Art Program. You DON’T want to miss this art show, these artists and their work are nothing short of incredible.
