On April 10th, construction was completed on Stone Soup Cafe’s brand new garden shed! THANK YOU to our 02C donors who made this a reality. And thank you to United Builders Inc. for going above and beyond in the construction of this project! The Stone Soup Cafe served 30,000 hot, nutritious meals last year! 30,000! Their community garden on 12th Avenue helps to support the Stone Soup Cafe and O2C is so very proud to be able to help to support their mission and their garden!
When the garden shed was constructed, The Stone Soup Cafe was able to clear out some extra room in their main building where they had been storing gardening tools and supplies, which created more room for food stroage! So Our 2 Cents Fairbanks partnered with the students and parents of Weller Elementary School for a food drive and in 4 short days, the kids brought in 1,656 food items. On April 26th, our volunteers packaged all of the food up and delivered a trailer full of food to The Stone Soup Cafe.
The Bread Line is a non-profit anti-hunger organization that provides hot and nutritious food for Fairbanks residents who struggle with hunger. They address the problems of hunger with empathy, holistic action and with the strong position that EVERYONE deserves the right to food. Their role in the community is to feed hungry people and treat each and everyone of their guests with dignity and respect.
